Family Life

Colleen fell in love with Old Town when newly married twenty-five years ago!  Soon after, Colleen had two sons -- Jack and Peter.  She loved raising her boys in Old Town, walking to shops, restaurants, playgrounds and their pre-schools.  While staying home with her boys, Colleen went back to school for her Masters Degree in Interior Design at The Corcoran School of Interior Design.  When the boys were old enough, Colleen got her Virginia Real Estate license and fulfilled her dream of combining her background in real estate sales and interior design.  She moved to Old Town twenty-five years ago after living in Boston, her hometown, where she sold pre-construction luxury condominiums.  After college in 1982, Colleen moved to New York City, beginning her career in Real Estate with a focus on resales of smashing Soho and Tribeca lofts.  Colleen is enthusiast about her sons - the youngest began his freshman year this Fall at College of Charleston, the elder graduated from college last Spring and is now working for Hubspot in Cambridge, MA.  Colleen’s favorite leisure activities revolve around discovering new interior designers, touring historic homes, combining a love of travel while looking at creative items for the home, trying new restaurants, walking the Potomac waterfront, and spending time with her family on Cape Cod.

" I watched in awe as Colleen Coopersmith rearranged my furniture, re-hung artwork, brought in accessories, and directed the clean out and organization of every closet in the house. She has have a background in design, her taste is impeccable, and her standards for my house are much higher than my own! Part coach, part construction worker, and part interior designer, she transformed my home. I feel like I’ve lived through an episode of HGTV and my house has evolved from “pretty good” into the kind of house I would like to buy! It was a slight bruise to my ego to learn that my furniture placement was all wrong and the paint color I had painstaking selected for the powder room was unacceptable. I thought the quilts and expensive bedding in our master bedroom were gorgeous but apparently they didn’t match the bedroom furniture and paint at all. Who knew? There is now a whole new set of linens that have been approved by Colleen, otherwise known as “the boss of me.” My husband had to take some things on the chin as well; the entertainment stand he has steadfastly refused to replace for years is no more. The dining room light fixture I’ve been complaining about since we moved in has been replaced with something new and fresh and absolutely perfect for the space. Best of all, the granite countertops that have been on my wish list for the next house are now taking up residence in my kitchen! Of course, there’s not much else in the kitchen besides those lovely countertops since functional items are not on the approved list of décor. Yesterday my sweet five year old said, “I really want to draw a picture, but there’s no paper in the house.” We are practicing the art of simple (or some might call it austere) living until our home sells. Until then, we will be dining out often and trying to remember why we are moving. "
